Top Ten Must See Classic Movies on Netflix November 2023

Great movies from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, in my opinion these are probably some of the absolute best movies of all time and definitely the top ones on Netflix. 

sixteen candles

This movie is so classic that it is referenced in multiple other movies by as a classic. I love all John Hughes films – he is such an icon of great 80’s teen movies, (which those who were teens in the 80’s still enjoy in their 50’s.) Molly Ringwald and 

stand by me

The 1986 Rob Reiner film won the Golden Globe for best motion picture and best director. It has a 92% review on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and general audience and is regarded as a classic coming of age story. It is a funny and deep tearjerker. 

karate kid

with an 8.5/10 review, this is a classic movie that is great for watching nostalgically with your kids. 

scarface

8/10 from critics and 9/10 from audience, a classic must-see.

heat

I absolutely loved this movie. I found it on reddit under a movie recommendations thread and saw it was on Netflix. I absolutely recommend seeing this if you haven’t seen it, or if you haven’t seen it recently you’ll be glad to know it’s available now. Starring Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. 9/10 review on Rotten Tomatoes by critics and audience.

An absolute cult classic, with an almost perfect review from critics (97%), and a solid 9/10 from the general audience. 

“A miraculous achievement from all aspects, Spielberg weaves together drama, humor, adventure, and horror expertly and plays the audience like a fiddle. The main trio of stars are tremendous in their roles.” -Patrick Cavanaugh 

donnie brasco

Another movie starring Al Pacino and Johnny Depp, with an approximate 9/10 review from critics and audience. 

“This is Depp’s coming-of-age role, and he’s terrific. Pacino, who’s shown more flash than substance recently, reminds us how great he can be when he loses himself inside a character.” -Newsweek

the big lebowski

I did not like this movie, but a lot of people love it, so I will put it here in case it is up your ally. 

Conan the barbarian

The newer version received awful ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, but the old version with Arnold Schwartzenegger and James Earl Jones is a cult classic and a must see. 

The Deer Hunter

Starring Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, Meryl Streep, this movie won multiple academy awards including for best picture. It’s a timeless movie that stays with you after you watch it. Set during the war. It has an 86% critic review and 91% audience review on Rotten Tomatoes.
