Summer Makeup Must-Haves
Summertime is here and summer palettes and shades are in! Whether you are hanging out by the pool, or just going to work, make sure you have these makeup necessities for summer!
Travel Size Mini Makeup
Kush Mascara by Milk is my personal #1 pick for makeup. I have it in the mini and the regular size and both work great. If you are looking for waterproof instead, check out this one by Too Faced.
If you plan to travel this summer, make sure to bring your bag of minis to save on packing space! It’s good to pack as light as possible, and if you use a bunch of different products your bag can get heavy quickly.
Plus, if you are flying, liquid makeup has to be in a container of 3.4 oz or less. Liquid eyeliner, lip gloss, Oftentimes it seems that the minis like the Better Than Sex Mascara are easier to handle and have a better formula than the full size anyway. It’s always a good excuse to try out a sample of an expensive product you are thinking of buying.
The miniature sized Nudestix are perfect summer fun and travel. It’s a good to switch out your winter shades for some summer blush and bronzer. This trio includes coordinating bronzer, blush, and highlighter in a travel tin.
Lip gloss
Too Faced makes really good makeup products. Especially for lips, they are by far the best I’ve found. The lip plumper formula works really well and their lip liner and liquid lipstick too. The lip liner is a clickable pencil which means you don’t need to worry about sharpening. If you want a natural look, the Extreme Lip Plumper is sheer and glossy.
In the summertime, you want to go for a sunny shade like coral, nude pink, or clear gloss.
Tip: I’ve noticed the regular Extreme Lip Plumper works better than the “Maximum” Extreme Lip Plumper.

Eyeliner & mascara
Foundation (with Sunscreen)
In the summer heat it can be uncomfortable to wear a full face of makeup with layers of primer, foundation, concealer, contouring, etc. With the gray winter gone, our faces look naturally more tanned and flushed anyway. If you feel like you can’t skip the foundation, choose a lightweight option.
If you plan to be outside a lot this summer, look for a combo of sunscreen, moisturizer, and foundation. This BB Cream from IT is a combo of makeup and skincare, working over time to create softer, more hydrated skin.
Summer Fridays is the foundation I use and it feels great, goes smoothly onto the skin, and lasts all day. It’s a little pricey but lasts forever and you only need a few drops. It’s a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid and it works well to even out your color to create a nice base for makeup.
Another popular multi-use foundation is the ILIA super serum, which is an all-in-one formula of 40 SPF sun protection, moisturizing hydration, wrinkle-reducer, pore minimizer, and balances oily skin.
Blush & Bronzer
This contour palette is one of the best out there and it lasts a really long time. It come with six shades to mix and blend so it works for many different skin tones.
If you are looking for something smaller and more on the go, this duo palette by GXVE by Gwen Stefani is my favorite, it comes in multiple tones and includes a cream contour, a powdered bronzer, and a mirror.
